Why Naples?
Naples is what happens when you compress 3,000 years of history into a city built on a volcano. It's intense — busier streets than Milan, more honking than Rome, and the country's most distinct dialect — but it's also Italy's most affordable major city, the food is legendary, and the islands of Capri, Ischia, and Procida are short ferry rides away. Coworking is thin compared to the north but growing. The new high-speed Frecciarossa line puts Rome 70 minutes away.

- Chiaia. West of the centre, along the seafront — the upmarket residential area, with the best cafés and aperitivo scene.
- Vomero. Hilltop neighbourhood reached by funicular — leafy, residential, calmer than the centre. Castel Sant'Elmo views included.
- Centro Storico (Spaccanapoli). The medieval core — chaotic, gritty, alive. Rent is cheap; nights are loud. Best for younger nomads who want full immersion.
- Posillipo. Coastal, expensive, residential — the city's wealthiest area, with sweeping bay views.

- Spazio Lazzari. Centro storico coworking — small, English-friendly, with a community of expats and young Italians.

Things to do
- Eat pizza at Sorbillo, Da Michele, or Concettina ai Tre Santi — and again the next day.
- Take the ferry to Procida (40 min) for an under-touristed island day — Capri is famous; Procida is what Capri was 50 years ago.
- Walk the Lungomare from Mergellina to the Castel dell'Ovo at sunset.
- Visit the Naples National Archaeological Museum — the best Roman art outside the Vatican, including the most famous Pompeii frescoes.
Practical tip
Naples logistics take getting used to — taxis, traffic, and street-level pickpocketing are real. Use registered taxis, keep phones in inside pockets, and stay aware in crowds. None of this should put you off; it's just the price of admission.
